The 12:00 meeting was held in X150.
Eight members were in attendance: Ann Blackman, Linda Crowley, Samantha Fiscella,
Shree Kota, Waylena McCully, Karina Pavlova, Lisa Shea and Joy Urwiler.
Ann Blackman is stepping down as WCSIT Faculty Advisor. Ann will still be teaching
and participating in club activities whenever possible. CSIT Program Manager
Samantha Fiscella (sfiscella@parkland.edu)
is stepping in as the new Faculty advisor.
Tour IT is scheduled for the morning of December 2nd. Volunteers are needed to help guide visiting high school students to activities in various locations in the college.
Lisa Shea brought in an article from CNET.com called, "Opening Doors for Women in Computing." The article can be found at http://news.com.com/Opening+doors+for+women+in+computing/2100-1022_3-5557311.html.
It's not too early to start thinking about teams and projects for the upcoming Games4Girls competition. Visit the WCSIT website http://wcsit.csit.parkland.edu/g4g.html to check out last year's winning entries.
A group visit to Wolfram Research is still being planned, most likely for a Friday afternoon. Time and date TBA.
Karina suggested that we get a group together for a focused visit to the University of Illinois Computer Science department. Individually, it can be difficult to get answers to our specific questions about the program. Asking our questions in person as a group may be a more effective approach.
Ann suggested that we get together a team to participate in the MS Walk, an annual fundraiser for the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. 1. Purchase pop This can be done any time before the day of the sale. All expenses are reimbursed.
2. Fill coolers with pop and ice. This needs to be done the morning of the pizza sale. It can be done any time between 8:00 am and 10:00 am.
3. Create price list.
4. Table set up. This is done around 10:15 on the day of the sale.
5. Promoters. EVERYONE can let their morning classes know about the sale. Wear your WCSIT t-shirts on pizza sale days.
6. Pizza sellers. (This is fun.) You can work the entire time or for as long
as you have available.
Remember: Many hands make for light work. Please don’t let the responsibility
of fund-raising fall on a few members. Help any way that you can.
