WCSIT MinutesRespectfully submitted by Waylena McCully, secretary.
The 11:00 meeting was held in X150.
Eight were in attendance: Ann Blackman, Linda Crowley, Marlene Long, Waylena
McCully, Karina Pavlova, Lisa Shea, Irene Tucker, and Nanci Withrow.
The schedule for Spring meetings and Pizza/Food Sales has been published. Meetings
are held on different days of the week throughout the semester to try to accommodate
the wide variety of work and school schedules of our membership. Members are
encouraged to share the schedule with other women in our classes.
Congrats to Katrina Pavlova for passing the first of her Oracle certification exams!
The primary topic of discussion was that of Pizza Sales. The Wednesday, January 12th sale brought in $330 for the club. Logistics for the Friday, January 14th sale were discussed, along with pricing, and perhaps adding water and cookies to the sale offerings. Future possibilities include booking the display case behind the sales area in the college center and setting up a separate information table.
A topic for future discussion will be deciding how to spend funds raised through Pizza Sales and other fundraising efforts. An early favorite is creating a scholarship to help women in the CSIT program. Bring your ideas to the next meeting or, if you can't attend, contact President Marlene Long (mlong@stu.parkland.edu) with your ideas.
An item of more immediate urgency is electing a new Vice President for the club. Lisa Shea served as VP in the previous semester, but her school and work schedules will are no longer conducive to her serving in this role. Nominations must be submitted to Marlene Long by 9:00AM January 20th. Ballots will be distributed by email and available at the January 20th meeting. Ballots are due in Ann Blackman's office (B116) by 11:00AM January 24th.
In other news, the American Technical Education Association is holding a Logo design competition. The prize is $500 cash and the deadline is March 1, 2005. Flyers with more information are available from Ann Blackman.
Another topic for future discussion is the possibility of using grant funds to aid club members in paying for certification exams. Ann will be investigating the possibilities. These funds are from external grants and should not be confused with the funds raised by club members in fundraising events, as each type of funding is governed by a different set of rules and regulations.
Ann mentioned that we should all be thinking of ways we can conduct outreach to area high school students. Reaching these young women is a great way to help remove some of the barriers encountered later in college life. Get those thinking caps on!
Also, meeting minutes are now being posted on the website. Thanks to Kasey Kerr for keeping our site up to date and looking great!
Finally, Ann complimented the club on coming together so well and bringing so much excitement to the group.
