We Make Geek Look Good

The purpose of WCSIT is to provide female CSIT students at Parkland College with an organized and guided means to share ideas, support, skills, questions, contacts, and other information as they pursue careers in computer science. The goal is that no woman in CSIT will miss the opportunity to participate fully in the information economy because of misconceptions about, lack of exposure to, or lack of support in the field.

ChicTech Technical Ambassadors Competition...

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and their ChicTech student organization will again be hosting their annual Technical Ambassasors Competition (TAC). During the competition, groups of girls build a technical project for the benefit of a non-profit organization in their community and are invited to a two-day weekend Conference on the UIUC campus. At the Conference, girls will interact personally with ChicTech volunteers and participate in engaging activities and workshops.

For more information, visit http://www.cs.uiuc.edu/tac.

Why don't more women get involved with computers?

Computers  =  Geek  =  E-E-W!
Not enough exposure to the various fields in computing
Fear of being rejected or not taken seriously
Too hard
